Lithium Ark selects Antwerp as strategic location for European lithium refining platform

Maastricht, Netherlands, 11 November 2025: Lithium Ark, the technology company pioneering a new approach to lithium refining, has selected Antwerp, Belgium as the strategic location for its Green+ lithium refining platform in Europe.

The decision reflects Antwerp’s established industrial and logistics infrastructure, including its major port, chemical cluster, access to utilities and industrial partners, and proximity to European cathode, battery and automotive value chains.

Green+ Antwerp is designed to convert lithium chloride into battery-grade lithium hydroxide using Lithium Ark’s patented circular refining process. The project will aggregate lithium chloride from diversified jurisdictions and refine it locally in Europe, supporting a more resilient and traceable battery materials supply chain.

Antwerp’s established chemical ecosystem also offers potential synergies across reagents, utilities, logistics and industrial infrastructure, while its port provides access to imported lithium intermediates and European customers.

Lithium Ark is developing Green+ Antwerp as its first industrial-scale deployment in Europe, with the project intended to add local lithium refining capacity to the region’s existing battery materials and chemical industries.

Peter Ehren, Co-Founder & Chief Technology Officer at Lithium Ark, said: “Antwerp provides an excellent industrial base for Green+ and brings together the infrastructure, expertise and connectivity we need to develop a European lithium refining platform. It gives us a strong foundation from which to take the project forward towards commercial deployment.”

The project is now being advanced through the next stages of technical, environmental, commercial and financing development, including engineering, permitting, feedstock development, offtake engagement and funding preparation.

About Lithium Ark

Lithium Ark is a technology company pioneering a patented lithium refining process that produces battery-grade lithium hydroxide directly from lithium chloride, eliminating the need to produce, transport, and reconvert lithium carbonate, while also having the ability to produce battery-grade lithium carbonate as required. Backed by more than 25 years of hands-on lithium expertise and three international patents, the technology reengineers conventional refining to deliver up to 89% lower carbon emissions, 75% less water consumption, and 49% lower energy use than conventional refining, while reducing costs and enabling faster, more scalable deployment.

The company’s first commercial deployment in Antwerp is being developed in the heart of Europe’s leading chemical cluster alongside industry partners. The project will showcase the refining process, support future global deployment and technology licensing, while strengthening Europe’s critical minerals supply chain. Lithium Ark has offices in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Chile.
